Microcytic anemia. Can be macrocytic or normocytic. Iron cannot incorporate into hemoglobin and deposit in the RBC precursor blast due to the defects in the production of heme. Basophilic Iron granules accumulated in the mitochondria surrounding the nucleus.
Congenital (X-linked) / Acquired (alcohol, lead poisoning, drugs – anti-TB,
chloramphenicol, vitamin B6 deficiency).
