Signs and symptoms of Ankylosing spondylitis

Symptoms usually appear early morning or after inactivity.

Axial

  • lower back pain
  • stiffness of back
  • Pain radiates to the buttock – persistant buttock pain
  • painful sacroiliac joint
  • Flattening of lumbar curvature
  • Decreased chest expansion – respiratory difficulty

Peripheral

  • Ankle, knee, elbow
  • enthesitis (heel – Achilles tendon)

Extraarticular

  • Fatigue (sleep disturbance)
  • Cardiac – aortic insufficiency –> CHF
  • anterior uveitis
  • AV block (III degree)
  • GIT – IBD
